It's indeed so, but depending on what your starting point, Mediator can be a lesser evel comparing to a spagetti mess. In some cases, you can aleviate this problem by implementing aspects of the Observer pattern, to make the notification more generic.

Let this be my official update on the matter of the second edition of the refactoring course.

I've been creating some prototypes of the new refactoring course over the course of the last several years, and although they all looked promising, improving different parts of the course, they all didn't feel right to me, because I wanted to make the real refactoring practice to be the core of the product.

In addition, now, in the light of the AI advancements and how the AI changed the work for all the developers, I feel that in addition to focusing on practice, there should now be complete rework of the material/presentation to accomodate it to the modern day realities.

Currently I test waters with the new type of educational product (https://gitbybit.com/), directly integrated into your IDE, which reacts to your progress, points out errors, helps with solution etc. Upon fully launching it, I'll see how it can be applied to refactoring.
